06.01.2026 - THE DODGERS GO BACK TO BACK AND WIN THE 2025 WORLD SERIES

The 2025 World Series was the championship series of Major League Baseball’s 2025 season. It was the 121st edition of the World Series and was played as a best-of-seven series between the National League champion and defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers and the American League champion Toronto Blue Jays. The series took place from October 24 to November 1, with games held at Rogers Centre in Toronto and Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.

The Dodgers defeated the Blue Jays four games to three to win their ninth World Series championship. Dodgers pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto was named World Series Most Valuable Player after recording three wins in the series with a 1.02 ERA. The series was televised in the United States by Fox and in Canada by Sportsnet.

Los Angeles entered the series seeking to become the first team to repeat as World Series champions since the New York Yankees from 1998 to 2000. Toronto was making its third World Series appearance and its first since winning back-to-back titles in 1992 and 1993. The Blue Jays secured home-field advantage by finishing as the top seed in the American League after winning the AL East for the first time since 2015.

The series opened in Toronto, where the teams split the first two games. Toronto won Game 1 with an 11–4 victory, highlighted by a nine-run sixth inning that included the first pinch-hit grand slam in World Series history by Addison Barger. Los Angeles responded in Game 2 with a 5–1 win behind a complete-game performance from Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who became the first pitcher to throw a World Series complete game since 2015.

Game 3 in Los Angeles became one of the longest games in postseason history, lasting 18 innings. The Dodgers won 6–5 on a walk-off home run by Freddie Freeman, marking the second consecutive World Series in which Freeman ended a game with a walk-off homer. Toronto responded by winning Games 4 and 5 at Dodger Stadium to take a 3–2 series lead, capitalizing on struggles from the Dodgers’ bullpen and strong pitching performances from their starters.

Facing elimination, the Dodgers won a low-scoring Game 6 in Toronto by a 3–1 score, with Yamamoto earning his second win of the series. The victory forced a winner-take-all Game 7 at Rogers Centre.

In Game 7, Toronto built a 3–0 lead in the third inning and held a 4–3 advantage entering the ninth. With two outs in the top of the ninth, Miguel Rojas hit a game-tying home run, becoming the first player in World Series history to hit a game-tying homer in the ninth inning or later of a Game 7. The game went to extra innings, marking the sixth Game 7 in World Series history to do so.

In the top of the eleventh inning, Dodgers catcher Will Smith hit a two-out home run to give Los Angeles a 5–4 lead. Yoshinobu Yamamoto pitched the bottom of the inning to close out the game, securing the championship for the Dodgers.

The Dodgers became the first National League team to repeat as World Series champions since the Cincinnati Reds in 1975 and 1976, and the first MLB team overall to do so since the Yankees’ three-peat from 1998 to 2000. It was the first repeat championship in Dodgers franchise history.

The series featured numerous records and milestones, including the longest World Series games by innings pitched in a best-of-seven format, record postseason performances by several players, and one of the largest global television audiences for a World Series. Game 7 alone drew an estimated worldwide audience of over 51 million viewers across the United States, Canada, and Japan.
